Villas and Gardens

The beautiful villas of Como are famous: featuring in historical poems and paintings and now inhabited by celebrities.

Historically, each villa was a noble residence surrounded by beautifully kept gardens bursting with the colours of every season. The changing leaves in the Autumn, the vibrant colours of the berries contrasting with the white of the snow in Winter, and the colourful flowers in the Spring and Summer. Nowadays they have been converted into grand hotels, conference centres or VIP residences.

These gardens are often open to the public and it’s possible to visit them. Botanical experts will recognise the orchids of Villa Vigoni, the Camellia of Villa Carlotta, the Elm trees of Villa Olmo (the name Olmo in Italian means Elm) and the many other species protected by the microclimate around the lake.
