Excursions and visits

From the Hotel Barchetta there are endless possibilities for excursions among nature, history or art.

If you fancy a boat trip on the Lake, the boats leave from outside the hotel. You can visit Bellagio, the wonderful hamlet (borgo) located at the point where the two branches of Lake Como meet. Or you could visit the blissful Island Comacina, for a stroll or romantic dinner. It’s also well worth allowing yourself a whole day to do the Lario tour (giro del Lario).

If you like walking,  the network of paths of the Via dei Monti Lariani start from the nearby Cernobbio. These are long, but not too difficult routes from 600-1200m in altitude, traced out by the Italian Alpine Club, CAI, (Club Alpino Italiano). If you want to take in the full view of the lake and its surrounding areas better, you can also take the funicular up the mountain to Brunate

If you would prefer to do something more extravagant you could try flying over the lake in a seaplane, or renting a vintage car and speeding round with the wind flying through your hair.

The cosmopolitan Lugano is just a few minutes away-leaving the European Community behind and crossing one of the last border checkpoints. Passports or ID cards are needed in order to get through.

Fox Town, the obligatory shopping stop with 160 designer stores, can be found in Mendrisio on the way back to the border.
